Timelessly beautiful original: The WG24, often referred to as the ‘Wagenfeld table lamp’ or simply the ‘Bauhaus lamp’, celebrates a special anniversary in 2024. The manufacturer Tecnolumen is celebrating this with a special edition of the design icon. The number in the name refers to the year 1924, when Wilhelm Wagenfeld first presented the design. The WG24 is characterised by its glass base, glass stem and dome-shaped shade made of opal glass.
The WG24 anniversary edition includes the Wagenfeld lamp itself, a book entitled ‘Harmonious, timeless, round: the modern sphere’ and two postcards with Wilhelm Wagenfeld and anniversary motifs. The signature of designer Wilhelm Wagenfeld is engraved in the glass base of the lamp. A certificate of authenticity is attached to the lamp as a pendant.
Wilhelm Wagenfeld is considered one of the most influential designers of the Bauhaus. As a young student under the direction of László Moholy-Nagy, he developed the WG24 lamp, also known as the Bauhaus lamp. This timeless piece combines functionality with minimalist design and epitomises the Bauhaus philosophy that good design should be both aesthetically pleasing and accessible to everyone. The lamp shows how Wagenfeld utilised industrial materials to create objects that were both beautiful and practical. The WG24 has a firm place in design history: to this day, it symbolises the innovative power of the Bauhaus and its famous credo ‘form follows function’.
