ZigZagZurich is pleased to announce the launch of the new Artist Carpet Collection 2021.
Inspired by our love for wool and the ancient technique to weave carpets, we are pleased to announce our new Artist Carpet Collection. This new production technique we developed combines a natural, unbleached, simply washed sheep’s wool (dark or light tone) combined with a bamboo silk yarn in the weft. The combination of these two yarns creates a beautiful contrast that is both luxurious yet hardwearing. The carpets are woven with 820’000 points per square meter leaving the pile height to a minimum to give a flat and modern appearance. The carpets are manufactured in small production runs in Europe and are Oeko-Tex certified. Backed with a non-slip finish.
Standard size is 160 x 230cm. Custom sizes available on request.
Carpets or rugs are used for a variety of purposes, including insulating a person’s feet from a cold tile or floor, making a room more comfortable as a place to sit on the floor (e.g. when playing with children), reducing sound from walking and adding decoration or colour to a room. They can also be hung on the walls as pieces of artwork.
The first launch includes three works: “Field”, “Bengali”, and “Gunta”.
“Field” carpet by Jo Hummel, was created using large sheets of painted paper, which the artist cut into shapes, flipped, and rearranged until a visual balance was reached. There are visual structures such as the grid, positive negative space and the suggestion of pattern which are underpinned by a physical, human, intuitive collage process. With this weaving techniques we were able to reproduce even the smallest detail.
