Christopher Farr The Many Faces of Red Carpet / The Many Faces of Red Rug by Josef Albers: Interaction of Color
At the end of 2020, Christopher Farr produced the Josef Albers motif The Many Faces of Red as a limited carpet edition. The work comes from his "Interaction of Color" series and is also on the cover of Josef Albers' important textbook on the effects of colors from 1963.
Josef Albers (1888–1976) and Anni Albers (1899–1994) artistic work was strongly influenced by the Bauhaus, where Josef Albers worked and taught as a master builder and from 1930 as deputy director. His future wife Anni Albers first studied at the State Bauhaus in Weimar and later headed the weaving mill. After the National Socialists seized power, the couple emigrated to the USA. Today Josef Albers is regarded as a very influential painter, designer and art educator, his wife Anni Albers as one of the most important textile artists of all. The series Homage to the Square is considered to be one of Josef Albers' best-known and most important works. Christopher Farr produced this famous motif as a limited edition carpet together with the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation.
