PROVEN BAUHAUS TASKS UNLEASH CREATIVITY

Many of the concepts of today's art didactics have their roots in the preliminary courses established at the Bauhaus, which were among the most influential developments in teaching there. Here, students were taught the basics of artistic design in pedagogically new and experimental ways at the beginning of their education. Inspired by these assignments, the book gathers 42 playful, practical experiments that can be done by oneself without much effort. The tasks are divided into five categories: Spatial Perception, Color and Light, Form and Construction, Seeing and Imaging, and Material Properties. There are concrete instructions on how to use the smartphone for sound experiments or photographic exercises, for example. But also expeditions through the urban space as well as color studies and material investigations with chewing gum are part of the repertoire. The versatile exercises offer all age groups the opportunity to discover their own creativity, sharpen their perception and approach the Bauhaus ideas.

The new Bauhaus exercises are designed to enable everyone to develop their individual creative abilities. In the spirit of the Bauhaus, they inspire people to look at the world from a different perspective through art-making They were created as part of the Bauhaus Agents Program (2016-20), a mediation initiative of the German Federal Cultural Foundation, together with the three Bauhaus institutions of the Bauhaus Archive / Museum of Design in Berlin, the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation and the Bauhaus Museum Weimar.
