How did the Bauhaus succeed in becoming the epitome of social, creative and didactic radical renewal? The exhibition "The whole world a Bauhaus" is devoted to this theme in two parts.

The title is programmatic. "Die ganze Welt ein Bauhaus" is a quotation from the Bauhaus student and teacher Fritz Kuhr (1928). It alludes to the dissolution of the boundaries between art, craft and technology as proclaimed by Bauhaus founder Walter Gropius. Everything is design - and the creation of a modern environment also creates the modern human being.

The whole world a Bauhaus? The volume published in conjunction with the worldwide exhibition series takes the quotation of the former Bauhaus student and later university professor Fritz Kuhr as an opportunity not only to reflect on the Bauhaus as a school in Weimar, Dessau and Berlin, but also to focus on parallel movements of modernism in non-European regions. The publication illuminates the Bauhaus with its multifaceted forms of expression in a depth never before seen, which go far beyond the constructivist language of the 1920s. Case studies from Buenos Aires, Mexico City, Santiago de Chile, Moscow, and the USA, among others, show that the Bauhaus was not an exclusive modernist enterprise. Avant-gardes in many parts of the world viewed the Bauhaus from their own perspective and integrated it into their discourses. Thus the Bauhaus became a worldwide motor for social, cultural and political new development.
